The Campaign

Rosarito, a small, friendly Mexican beach town, has always depended on tourists to fuel its economy. But unfounded stereotypes about Mexico have recently caused a decline in tourism, putting the livelihoods of Rosarito and its citizens in danger.

The
RediscoveRosarito project is an ongoing image restoration campaign for the city of Rosarito, Mexico headquartered at Emerson College in Boston, MA. The objective of this project is to reshape attitudes and perceptions surrounding Rosarito as well as promote tourism and rebuild credibility for the area. RediscoveRosarito is committed to restoring Rosarito's image through discourse, dialogue, and a comprehensive online communication strategy.

This August, RediscoveRosarito team members, Rosarito students, and local businesses teamed up with Campus Movie Fest to host the 5th Annual Rosarito Film Festival. Make sure you check out this year's videos at the official 2012 festival site!

The Rosarito Student Film Festival is a week-long workshop made possible by a collaboration of alumni, faculty and students of Emerson College, RediscoveRosarito, The L.A. Program, Campus MovieFest, Rosarito Beach Hotel, and the former Mayor of Rosarito, Hugo Torres.  As part of an effort to project a positive image of the town of Rosarito, the film festival offers students an opportunity to develop and produce a film from their vantage point on Rosarito.

Baja wants the movie spotlight again

By Richard Marosi, Los Angeles Times - January 3, 2012

Reporting from Rosarito Beach, Mexico— Hollywood made a big splash here when it sank the movie replica of the "Titanic" in an enormous water tank built specifically for the cinematic spectacle. The films "Master and Commander" and "Pearl Harbor" followed, with the cannon shots and explosions from those productions rattling high-rise condos and palapa bars up and down the craggy Baja California coast.

Now, movie fever may be building again...

Meet Sam Graves, owner of The Lizard Lounge Rosarito

As an expansion of the Faces of Rosarito video series, the RediscoveRosarito team is beginning to release new videos that profile Rosarito businesses and business owners.  Check out the first video in this series, an interview with Sam Graves, owner of The Lizard Lounge Rosarito.  The Lizard Lounge is a great example of a local business looking to serve and support the community of Rosarito; Sam showcases art from all over Mexico, and the drink and food menus are delicious!  As the Lizard Lounge's slogan says, it's a place "where friends come to meet!"

This past March, students traveled down to Rosarito and interviewed local high school students, artists, ex-pats, and other residents.  The goal of this project is to let the “faces” of Rosarito speak for themselves and tell the public what a great place Rosarito is.  Each video in the series gives you a different perspective on the beauty of this beach town, fun activities in the area, and the safe and relaxed atmosphere you’ll find in Rosarito!
